Seascale Energy Procures Green Methanol for Brave Pioneer

SINGAPORE – February 2026 – Seascale Energy has marked a key milestone as a future-ready marine fuel procurement platform with the successful procurement of green methanol for Brave Pioneer, the first of five dual-fuel dry bulk vessels chartered by Cargill.

The delivery represents one of Seascale Energy’s first green methanol stems and underlines the platform’s growing capability to support customers across both conventional marine fuels and emerging low- and zero-carbon alternatives.

The green methanol was bunkered in Singapore as part of Brave Pioneer’s maiden voyage, following its departure from the Philippines and ahead of onward voyages to Western Australia and Europe.

The operation coincided with Singapore’s first licensed methanol bunkering, following the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s (MPA) award of methanol bunkering licenses effective 1 January 2026 – an important step in establishing Singapore as a leading multi-fuel bunkering hub.

Brave Pioneer was built by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and is owned by Mitsui & Co., Ltd. The vessel is capable of operating on both conventional marine fuels and green methanol, a lower-carbon fuel that can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 70% compared to conventional alternatives.

The bunkering was supplied by Mitsui & Co. Energy Ltd and Golden Island Pte Ltd.

“Procuring green methanol for Brave Pioneer is a meaningful step for Seascale Energy and for the wider bunker industry,” said Olivier Josse and Peter Grunwaldt, Co-CEOs of Seascale Energy. “It shows that the transparency and disciplined procurement we apply to conventional fuels can also support emerging low-‑carbon alternatives. This first stem is an important milestone in building the capabilities our customers will need as supply options grow and the market scales over time.”

Launched in May 2025 as a joint venture between Cargill’s Pure Marine Fuels and the Hafnia Bunker Alliance, Seascale Energy was established to deliver a more efficient, transparent and collaborative approach to marine fuel procurement.

Nine months into operations, Seascale has onboarded 53 customers, streamlined bunker claims processes and expanded its fuel portfolio to include LNG, biofuels across multiple blends, and now green methanol.

Beyond fuel procurement, Seascale Energy continues to build capabilities aligned with regulatory change and the energy transition. Partnerships such as its collaboration with Lloyd’s Register provide ongoing technical and regulatory support, reinforcing Seascale’s commitment to credible, future-ready fuel solutions.

As demand for lower-carbon shipping accelerates, Seascale Energy aims to play a central role in connecting scale, procurement discipline and emerging fuel supply – helping its members navigate the transition.
